We enjoyed a lovely holiday break at By the Brae, a beautiful B & B in an excellent location with well appointed room and en suite. All very comfortable indeed. Our breakfast was beautifully prepared with fine produce and a great variety of dishes. Nothing too much for our friendly hosts.

We visited the local restaurants recommended by Richard and Jenny and found trips to do both locally, Fort George, Chanonry Point, and a little further afield Dunrobin Castle at Golspie, well worth the hours drive, where we also found found the Big Burn Walk and waterfall. Another splendid holiday in Scotland with breathataking views and scenary.

Richard and Jenny are absolutely wonderful hosts and just the loveliest people. They were so accommodating and anticipated our needs well. When our travel arrangements meant we would miss breakfast they graciously created a pack-and-go breakfast for us to take to the airport the next morning. They were also wonderful with offering tips about local sites and taxi services.

Located in the countryside. Very quiet and relaxing. Just a mile or so from the Culloden battlefield, and just a few miles more will get you to Clava Cairns (really worth the visit). A short drive will get you to the city center or the airport.

Richard and Jenny are great hosts - happy, easy-going and very well informed. We had enjoyable conversations with them. Their B&B is extremely well set up and the rooms and bathrooms were second to none. Breakfasts were 5 star quality - Jenny cooks eggs to perfection. I never score anyone 10/10 on anything anywhere but on this occasion 11/10 is appropriate.

Glen Affric was beautiful but there are many things to see and do. Richard and Jenny know the area well so seek their tips.

By the Brae is an absolutely brilliant b and b. Jenny and Richard are outstanding hosts who run a first class establishment. The welcome was warm and friendly, the room immaculate and the breakfast room charming. Breakfasts were absolutely delicious. For us, most importantly of all, Jenny and Richard walked the extra mile — they were amazingly accommodating and flexible when it came to some extraordinary requests from us. They were greeted with such a helpful and can-do attitude. We’re looking forward to returning in 2024.

Here are some tips. For the area: 1. Our dinner at the Cawdor Tavern ( a recommendation by Jenny and Richard) was delightful and the small village setting charming. 2. The b and b is located close to Inverness and wonderful book shopping at Leakey’s. 3. Again, the location for sightseeing was excellent. We had a four night stay which was filled with great places to visit: — Culloden is within 5-10 minutes — we went twice — every day we went exploring in a different direction. This included — Dunrobin Castle (a must) and Beauly Priory — Logie Steading, Cawdor Castle, Brodie Castle and out to the coast — around beautiful Loch Ness to Urquhart Castle and Fort Augustus

Excellent hosts that are very welcoming, who went out of their way to make our stay memorable. The accommodation is modern with well equipped rooms. Extremely comfortable beds, with lovely linen. Each room has its own en-suite as well as tea and coffee making facilities. Rooms are impeccably clean and tastefully decorated. Breakfast was a splendid spread of continental and full-fare breakfast. The food is honest, excellently prepared, expertly presented and was a lovely part of our stay. I stayed here last year and was so impressed that I booked again this year . Richard and Jenny are genuinely welcoming hosts who take an interest in their guests and are at hand for advice and assistance. Richard’s breakfast delivery was scintillating, and butter presentation almost as smooth! We enjoyed their great sense of humour and they are perfect hosts. Very attentive to our needs and a wealth of local knowledge (and from much further afield). We are very happy to recommend a stay with Richard & Jenny, I know we will most certainly be back. (Sorry folks)

Take time to explore the area and find out of the way places of interest. Ad hoc dolphin spotting at various coastal locations is much easier than you would imagine. Fort George, Culloden battlefield, Spey bay & the Dolphin centre all good visits offering some local history. Lots of beaches along the Moray Firth to immerse yourself into. If Indian is your palate, Saffron within 5 minutes of the BnB gets top marks.

Beautiful B&B in a quiet location with lovely well kept gardens . 10 minutes from the city centre. Room was comfortable and well looked after. Breakfast was amazing with so many choices and all prepared fresh right down to the homemade bread which was amazing. Richard was very hospitable and informative about the area . It was just fabulous in all respects! The room was super with a wonderful walk in shower. The towels were huge! Breakfast was a lovely selection of food cooked to order, and delicious. Very good value for money.

The hosts are really nice and friendly. Breakfast was delicious and they offer lots of other options like smoked salmon, cereal, fruit etc. This was one of the cleanet Bed and Breakfasts we have been to. There wasn‘t a dust particle anywhere. The beds were comfortable the shower was really good.

Great food at the mustard seed. Pre-book the restaurants in Inverness, otherwise you won‘t have any good options left. We also had a great time at the hootananny. They have live music most of the evenings. Activities: Loch Ness, Urquhart Castle, Afternoon Tea at the Kingsmill Hotel, Clava Cairns, Cawdor Castle

Do not bother looking elsewhere! If you cannot get a booking - hard luck! Try again sometime. You will not find better and I have stopped in some of the best hotels in the world. The rooms are not massive - they are comfortable, which is all you need and the en-suite facilities are excellent with superior toiletries to many top hotels. Richard and Jenny are amiable and knowledgeable which is a great asset if you are new to the area. I normally only eat porridge for breakfast but if you need the usual feast - just ask.

Plenty to see whatever your tastes. On the subject of restaurants - the Culloden Moor Inn was recommended by Richard with a small warning. Looks nothing from the outside but you are in for a surprise. Nice interior with very pleasant staff - but beware - the portions are big - and I mean big. No wonder the Jacobite army lost at Culloden - they must have eaten here first and been unable to walk let alone fight!

Perfect location for my father to stay near me during his visit. The room was a good size and immaculate. The en-suite was Perfect as it had a walk in shower, nothing to step in and out of. The breakfast was excellent and plentiful and Richard and Jenny were very kind and thoughtful hosts

This is a beautifully kept B&B. Immaculately clean with lovely hosts. In a quiet location close to Culloden battlefield and within 3 miles to the Centre of Inverness. Whilst a car is useful, a local bus service and taxis are readily available. Great spot for cyclists as lots of great routes around.

Richard an jenny are lovely friendly couple with a beautiful home. The rooms are very modern with a lovely big comfy bed and there is plenty to choose from on the breakfast menu including full cooked breakfast. Richard and Jenny are experienced hosts so you will enjoy a warm welcome and excellent facilities. Beds are super comfy, breakfast offers a wide range of options. There's plenty of space for parking.

Very close to Culloden battlefield. Richard and Jenny can suggest plenty of other places to visit both locally and further afield in the glorious Scottish Highlands.

By the Brae can be best described as Inverness' rare gem. We have been visiting our family there for the past 16 years, staying in various hotels and B&B's but By the Brae surpasses any place we have ever stayed in. Jenny and Richard went the extra mile to ensure our comfort. It certainly is our "home from home" from now on.

The Mustard Seed is one of our favourite restaurants in town. The Culloden Moor Inn which is a short distance from By the Brae serves excellent food - and plenty of it. The Battlefield is the obvious place to visit but Fort George is worth a visit as is Cameron Barracks.

Wonderful B&B - no complaints. Staff were very friendly and helpful, providing a faultless service throughout our stay. Location isn't too bad, with it being only a short drive from Inverness and other surrounding towns. However, there isn't too much within walking distance if this would be a requirement (e.g. pubs/restaurants). Overall, a very lovely stay with very accommodating hosts. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend By the Brae to anyone looking to stay in this area.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay. I couldn't fault anything with our stay with Richard & Jenny. They have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable,things I find can let places down By the Brae didn't, lovely large towels, excellent lighting, lovely modern shower, everything was quality. We stayed for 2 nights and unfortunately only had breakfast on our first morning which was cooked to perfection Our 2nd morning we had a very early tour to go on but we were provided with a packed breakfast which we hadn't expected and we were very grateful for. We were able to leave our car whilst we went on a 3 day tour and are looking forward to going back to stay a further 2 nights.

There is a book providing you with everything you need to know. List of taxis which we used, local restaurants, take aways and the rules of the house regarding bringing food in. Places to visit. Perfect.

Large clean well appointed room with onsite secure parking. Breakfast was both ample and well prepared. Accommodating staff who no request was too much for. All Covid precautions in place. Located in a quiet spot just a few minutes drive from local facilities. I would recommend this B & B to anybody.

Plenty of attractions, pubs and restaurants within a few minutes drive of the B & B.

My husband an i have just returned from another lovely stay at by the brae we have been returning now for 3 years Richard an jenny are so friendly very helpful with info for places to visit excellent breakfast every morning all areas of accommodation is excellent will definitely be returning

We have eaten in several places in Inverness all were very nice zizzi rocpool an fig & thistle
